The bare minimum
Food and Drink
Long hours on the job, particularly if you're not used to a demanding schedule, can greatly amplify your hunger. That's why it's vital to pack enough food and water to keep you going all day. Staying hydrated and well-nourished is key to maintaining energy and focus during extended work periods.
Food Ideas:
Sandwiches: Pre-made sandwiches in whole-grain bread can be a hearty option.
Salads: Packable salads with protein-rich additions like grilled chicken or tofu.
Trail mix: A customizable blend of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and chocolate chips for sustained energy.
Jerky: A compact protein source that doesn't require refrigeration.
Hummus and veggies: A healthy and satisfying snack.
drink Ideas:
Water: The classic choice. Infuse it with fruits like lemon, lime, or cucumber for added flavor.
Coffee: Great for the mornings.
Coconut water: Naturally hydrating and packed with electrolytes.
Fruit-infused water: A delicious and healthy way to hydrate.
Smoothies: A blend of fruits, yogurt, and ice for a nutritious and filling drink.
Sun screen!
One of the most important items to pack is a good face and body sunscreen to protect your skin while you work. Remember to reapply every hour and do not, for the life of you, pack spray sunscreen. Spray sunscreen can stain fabrics and it can also leave oil on teak.
Here is a list of recommended sunscreens:
Raw Elements Sun Screen
Sun bum mineral sunscreen
unseen sunscreen
supergoop sunscreen
EltaMD UV Clear Facial Sunscreen
Hat!
Wearing a hat will help keep sun off of your head and face and keep your head cool in hot summer days.
Sun glasses!
Takes the edge off from looking at bright white all day
Passport
some yachts will ensure you are who you say you are. for this they will require you bring your passport.
The nice to have extras
Jacket:
for the colder mornings and night.
Clean or new shoes:
Always ask permission before wearing shoes on a yacht but if they allow it wearing shoes will protect your feet and provide comfort from standing a lot.
A waterproof watch:
A watch will help you keep track of time which is especially important to know how long you are spending on tasks and when lunch time is.
Headphones:
If allowed music always makes things fun.
